Cis people are fixating on trans people even as it destroys their lives, careers, and chances of re-election. Learn to spot the signs.

Hello, and welcome to Trans Awareness Week. It is customary, at this time, to remind you that some people trans their gender. People have been doing this throughout recorded history, in pretty much every culture you can imagine, and, although we don’t yet know precisely how or why — as with many health issues, research is evolving — gender transition for those who want it is an unambiguously positive treatment which improves quality and length of life.

Yes: In the words of the American Medical Association, “empirical evidence has demonstrated that trans and non-binary gender identities are normal variations of human identity and expression,” and “every major medical association in the United States recognizes the medical necessity of transition-related care for improving the physical and mental health of transgender people.” You would think the conversation could just end there.

Yet alongside the rise of life-saving and positive trans awareness, a second, deadlier affliction has arisen, for which there is no known cure: The cis people who are a little too aware of trans people. These tragic cisgenders are known to…
